I remember how excited I was to hear about Elizabeth and David’s wedding during our first meeting. They were to be married in the historic St.John’s Episcopal Church at Lafayette Square — the Presidents’ church. Being a Washington D.C. native, there are bits and pieces of history that take place right in my own backyard. I relish these places. They make me feel even more at home in my hometown. You can imagine my excitement when they said, “You! We choose YOU Ashlee Wilcox Van Veen, to be OUR photographer!” I was finally going to shoot a wedding in this very special place. For all you history buffs (read more here!), here’s a brief excerpt from the website that explains why it’s called “The Church of The Presidents”:
St. John’s first service was held in October 1816. From that time to the present, every person who has held the office of President of the United States has attended a regular or occasional service at St. John’s. Pew 54 is the President’s Pew, and is reserved for the chief executive’s use when in attendance.
But imagine my wonder, when what really took my breath away was Elizabeth on her wedding day.

Elizabeth got ready at the newly renovated (and totally fabulous) Jefferson Hotel. Isn’t she lovely?!

I always wonder what is going through the groom’s mind when he sees his bride for the first time on their wedding day. I think David’s eyes say it all… there is definitely love, but also so much pride.

David and Elizabeth’s intimate reception was held at The Army Navy Club, just a short walk from The White House, Lafayette Park, and St.John’s. The Army Navy Club happens to be where Tom and I shot our first wedding together 10 years ago. If you get married here, Tom will tell you all about that day (and the legendary steak he had…).
Oh look! It’s more wonderful DA clients — Eric and Jenny! Hi guys!

Congratulations Elizabeth and David!!! Rock on!!!
XOXO

Ashlee - Tom – for as many times as you’ve shot at the Tidal Basin – your signature shots always look amazing, and I love that you continually find new inspiration in the same location. It shows your true talent and vision! Well done honey! <3
